★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A peaceful place and pagoda. Good for taking meditation. For sightseening, there are some pagodas_ Snake pagoda, Thatta Htarna pagodas and Kyeikpar pagodas. And also a chance to learn village style views near Yangon City.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Temple is in the middle of the lake. Only real attraction is the small temple with a tree in the middle and pythons in each window. Locals love it though and come by any means possible.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wow, awesome snake temple. There are so many snakes everywhere! They are very docile. You can buy little odd post cards here.
We also got scammed like the other reviewer... Watch out for people in Yangon who offer to take you places for free. They took us to some cool spots but then drove us to the middle of nowhere and demanded 180,000 kyat. Not cool...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's not the only pagoda with snakes (Bago has one as well), but if you're tired of seeing the same old thing in and around Yangon, this will make a nice half day adventure. The snakes are extremely docile but they monks/nuns there are more hesitant to let people hold the snakes than when I was first here in 2014. Bribes can go a long way however.

This is not related to the snake temple specifically, but if a random person befriends you be extremely sceptical. Agree a price for all transportation in this area beforehand, and do not go with any self appointed tour guides or people who say they are locals. Either select your own motorbike and be clear on where you are going and a price, or use the Grab taxi app. I ended up with a gang of Burmese men demanding over 90,000 kyat because I naively allowed a "local student" to show me around "on his way home from university".
Now, the snake temple temple is quite interesting, although it's very small, probably about 5-6 square meters. So you don't really need long here. Though it's a really nice drive and there's plenty of small villages and scenery to take in en route. Also be sure to visit the 1050 (and counting) Buddha's which is only 5 minutes from here.
