By unplanned good luck, I arrived at Evo Service Center. Earlier, I spilled some coffee over my laptop. Like a child who only follows what they are told after a painful accident resulting from ignoring, I knew not to leave liquids near a computer. Being naive, I didn't immediately press the power button to turn off the laptop. After shutting down and trying to clean the keyboard, it wouldn't turn back on. Adding insult to injury, information online explained how leaving the computer on after a spill can cause a short, even frying the motherboard. Depressingly, coffee and milk ingression may result in a complete loss of the computer. Many computer repair shops in Yangon all said cleaning was possible but there may be little chance to make the computer work, and furthermore, spare parts for my old Mac were not available. Eventually, I was advised that the i-Pro Authorised Service Provider on the 1st floor of the La Pyi Wun Plaza was my best chance of success. Thinking mistakenly that they were closed due to Covid-19 (the staff were at the back having lunch), a security guard directed me past the Evo shop on the ground floor, to a small Evo service centre located at the back next to the toilets. I asked the staff to thoroughly clean inside the laptop and check for damage. The price quoted for a clean was very reasonable, much cheaper than other places I had visited. The staff said they would try their best to get it working, assuring me they were experienced with Apple products. They said they'll contact me before a week, a quick response, much faster than other service/repair outlets I previously checked. Evo did indeed deliver quickly, phoning me to come in after a few days. Wonderfully, the computer was on. The technicians had opened and cleaned the inside. However, the power switch couldn't be turned on because the connection between the keyboard and the switch was damaged. It required a new keyboard. New Apple keyboards cannot fit into my old Mac. The technicians quickly made enquiries. Evo Store warehouse had no third-party alternative replacements. The only option was to order a good quality replacement from China. This wouldn't take more than two months. It's great there was no need to make a deposit, just pay once all the repairs were complete. The technicians said I could continue to use the laptop. They had bypassed the power switch so it turned on by connecting it to the charger. This was very helpful, meaning I had a working computer until the keyboard arrived. However, I soon realised one problem. The battery remaining at 0% meant a power cut would leave no time to turn off the laptop, potentially corrupting files. I purchased a UPS before use. Everything worked fine. The clean up had been effective. Evo made good on their promise, the keyboard arrived earlier than expected. Once I returned the laptop, the technicians replaced the keyboard after a few days. They professionally allowed me to test everything before I took it away. I soon noticed one faulty key. Under warranty, I returned it. Evo sent off the laptop and the faulty key was quickly replaced in a few days. We tested the keyboard in the shop. I explained the worn cable on the charger didn't always connect to the charging port on the laptop. Evo discussed all options. I'm happy they genuinely tried to find the cheapest viable solution. Because new Apple chargers are notoriously expensive, Evo gave me the option of just having the end terminal replaced, much reducing the cost. A few months have passed. Everything works perfectly. I highly recommend Evo Service Center for their professionalism and reasonable repair costs. Staff communication skills are 100%, always phoning me promptly when repairs are finished or picking up the phone and explaining issues. Their estimated repair times are accurate. Talking to the technicians showed they have very good knowledge of computers and how to innovatively repair older models.
