★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the greatest Hindu temple of Yangon dedicated to Lord Muruga - also called Kaarthikeya ( named after the Krithika Star).
The presiding Deity is the avatar he assumed after a dispute with Lord Shiva his father to the injustice done to him in the contest for circling the earth.(Lord Ganesha won by a trick of going around the patents).
So Lord Muruga (as a boy) climbed the Pazhani Hill and stabilised there with a pole stick.
He was later reconciled by his old devotee called Avvaiyaar.
The temple, as per the incription on a marble stone, has been buit in 1860 by the Nattukkoottai Chettiyar community of Tamil Nadu. They are also called Nagarathaar நகரத்தார்.
Regular kumbhaabhishekam கும்பாபிஷேகம் is reported to have been conducted for this temple.
Thaipoosam தைப்பூசம் is also celebrated in this temple.
People fasting for this event go to the temple on the designated day by foot from their residence!
