Tiny, intimate theater in the home of one of the last traditional puppet master families. The show and the people are a great way for visitors to connect with historic Myanmar culture. Location is a 2nd-floor apartment down a hidden side street behind a market. Highly recommended!

Such an awesome experience!! Really intricate puppet show in an intimate setting. The owner and his family are warm, kind and interesting and share some of the history of puppets in Myanmar. Highly recommend!!

Amazing! We really enjoyed going there. The host is very friendly and speaks English well. He is truly passionate about puppetering, and he's doing everything he can to keep the tradition alive. You have to call in advance to book it, but you'll probably get a private show. The place is very small but that's even better, offers a more intimate atmosphere. If you have a spare evening in Yangon, this would be an amazing way to spend it, supporting an old tradition and a family that's doing its best to keep it alive.

An absolute highlight of our trip. The setting in their living room and neighborhood makes the experience 100% real despite the fact that it is clearly tailored for tourists with English explanations. The puppeteers bring the puppets to life like no other puppets I have seen before. For a traveler interested in trying the breadth of Burmese culture, this is a must see. I would put this on the agenda even for a 1 day trip to Yangon. Google directions are very accurate, but the signage is a bit hard to notice since it is in an apartment building. Very close to a great Thai restaurant- Sabai Dee.

It was so interested to watch mini version of puppet show for 45 minutes, and the explanation in English was so good for me to learn Myanmar Culture. The direction to find the theater was little complex, but the taxi driver or google map would good to lead you there. When you have arrived at an apartment, you could find the sign to the entrance. The people who have explained and perform was so nice, and the puppets feel like live creatures in front of your eye. I would like to see another version of the shows if they would develop 2nd, and other editions to watch. 'Thank you for giving me such a great experience'.

Really enjoyed both the informative introduction and also the performance itself. Was super easy to organize on same day basis. Especially liked the small and intimate setting (in a home with just a small group of people).

Don't miss this!! Even if you wouldn't normally go to a puppet show. Mr Htwe and his family are so passionate about this ancient Myanmar tradition that you'll get swept along for the ride. After years of not having enough people to sell out a theatre, Mr Htwe has resorted to transforming his living room into a stage, so everyone has front row seats. Have you ever seen a puppet horse? Snake? How about a puppet doing sommersaults? Go along and see for yourself!

A truly unique and intimate experience. Mr Htwee welcomed us in his apartment and gave a thorough introduction to Myanmar's puppeteering tradition, his family's history and puppet anatomy. The show was fun with a lot of dancing and traditional music. The puppets came to life and were very expressive, especially those equipped with independent eyebrow, eyelid, mouth, and even mustache movement! The puppetmaker is one of the puppeteers' husband, and his lab can be visited upon request. The puppets are very pretty and maneuvering them requires lots of practice. The show is more of a "demo", according to Mr. Htwee: the puppeteers are not hidden during the performance, so the audience can observe their skills in action.
