Located at the cape of Mawdin, this pagoda is renowned for its annual one month festival in February or March, and the long standing history. According to legends, this pagoda was build 2600 years ago by Naga, humans and gods. The pagoda contains two of Buddha hairs which were stolen by Naga from Taphussa and Bhallikas' original eight hairs of Buddha. This place can be reached by either taking a 7-8 hours long ship or driving a 5-6 hours long trip through the mountainous highway from Pathein. Hotels and bungalows are now available. Recommended as a must place to travel in Myanmar. The sunset is incredible, especially in winter. Overall, this is a best combination of a pagoda and a beautiful beach (swimming is prohibited).

It is the most famous pagoda in Pathein. If you follow the Pathein River till it empties into the Adman Sea you’ll reach Cape Mawtin (Mawtinson). site of a well-known festival during the lunar month of Tabodwe (February. March). On the seaside of the Cape is a sandy beach and the revered Pagoda Maw Tin Son. It is very surprising to note that the pagoda is water-logged all the year round except in the days of the annual festival. The seawater is out well beyond the pagoda during the festival and lots of stalls dealing with all sorts of local products. seafood. ornaments. made of seashells. and lodging houses. built of bamboo for the revellers mushroom on the beach. Once the festival is over. the water is up and covered the beach. It seems that the pagoda is located on the sea. From Pathein. there are roads to the popular beaches of Myanmar. Chaung Thar Beach and Ngwe Saung Beach. From Pathein. it will take only about 3 hours drive through the mountains and to the beautiful beaches.

When you arrive the MawtinSoon Pagoda' Festival, Ngwe Taung Beach is a must visit. Just half an hour from the Pagoda. Hainggyikyun (Hai Gyi Island) is also a must visit. Just an hour (a little more) drive from the Pagoda. Next famous island is GoYanGyiKyun (GawYanGyi Island). not too far very close to the Pagoda. Next famous beach to visit, Chaung Thar and Ngwe Saung Beach. It will take only about 3 hours drive from Pathein.

There are a lot of interesting scenes, views there. Myat MawTinSoon Pagoda can be reached by car or by ship. It crowded in February because of Buddha festival but it makes me fantastic and energetic & fresh.
