Red Dragon Hotel

Very clean, helpful staff, ask them the map with the main attractions. Very good location, WiFi was ok. Nice breakfast included in the price and served in the terrace with the most amazing view, probably one of the best in Hsipaw. Only downside was the wc at the reception floor, which meant we’d have to go all the way from our floor even in the Middleton the night.

++ there is a young man there working who makes the hotel worthy. He was really really friendly, truly nice. + nice terrace with amazing view of the river. - breakfast below average. Too much quantity, not good flavor. - economic rooms are a no no. Maybe we were unlucky but we couldn't sleep because bed bugs. We had to clean everything after. - rooms are not generally clean and the beds didn't feel higienic enough. - WiFi was almost non-existent

Unfortunately the low price is just not a good enough reason to stay here. The economy suites have no bathroom, which one understands upon booking, however the only bathrooms are on the main floor and the roof...in a 7 storey building. The building lacks any atmosphere and seems stark and utilitarian inside. I may sound like I am being picky and overly critical, but this is an honest account of our one night stay at Red Dragon. Staff were friendly and helpful however. They leave some room for improvement in the future for sure.

I booked a single room which had an ensuite bathroom and two single beds so had plenty of space. The breakfast was very good and the staff friendly too. It was cheaper than a bed in a dorm in other hostels here do I'd definitely recommend this place!

My friends and I had a fantastic stay at the Red Dragon hotel. They picked us up from the night bus at 5am and offered us free early check-in so we could get some extra sleep. The rooms are simple, but clean and great value for money. You can opt to have AC which works perfectly, and the beds are comfy. Breakfast is simple but tasty (rice or noodles with a fried egg, toast and fruit on the side and bottomless tea) and it's included in the cost of the room. The staff are fantastic - so lovely and helpful. I had an especially eye-opening experience when I had a minor crash on one of the hotel motorbikes. A local shopkeeper called the hotel and a member of staff came directly to help me. The bike had a few knocks and scrapes and was leaking oil so I feared the worst in terms of costs (especially having heard so many horror stories from other SE Asian countries), but the lady from the hotel simply knocked a couple of things back into place, dusted it off and said it was fine! She was very much more worried about me and took out the first aid kit to clean me up when we got back to the hotel. No extra cost for the bike, and she checked on me later that evening and in the morning too. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Hsipaw!

Really great and friendly place, very big and clean rooms with AMAZING shower (water pressure was the best in Myanmar). Breakfast is served on a great rooftop with beautiful view where you can also chill at other times overlooking the river. On a quiet alley 15m away from the main road where you have lots of restaurants and beer places. Highly recommend. Btw if you come with the train expect to be greeted as you get out of it by hotel staff who will give you a free shuttle to the hotel :)

Rooms are big, beds are comfy and the showers are warm and strong. We paid extra for our own bathroom and would recommend anyone to do the same as the stairs are on the top and bottom floors so this would be annoying were you to opt for the shared bathroom rooms. The main negatives were with how thin the walls were; we were woken up on consecutive mornings by the person in the room next to us retching and spitting (granted not the hotels fault but still not ideal) and also a very loud noise coming from the pipes. The breakfast is also served on the roof where it's pretty cold in the mornings and is a get what you're given scenario - again okay but I have allergies and this makes it hard to manage and the staff don't understand enough English to accommodate this.

I stayed in November, 2019. I stayed three nights and the WiFi only worked for one of those three. The rest of the time it didn't work at all. The AC only worked for two of the three nights. The shower only had two settings: scalding hot and freezing cold. The lighting in the room was terrible, all bright, direct and right in your eyes when lying down. And you have to pay to refill your water bottle. It's not much it's just annoying, that kind of thing should be free. I also asked one receptionist for a late check-out and he said it was fine but then the next day another receptionist called me and told me I had to pay extra. I would have been fine with this, but don't tell me two different things when I ask. The beds are very comfortable, the location is extremely convenient right next to Mr. Bike, the breakfast is very filling and tasty, and the price can't be beat. Overall it's not a bad place to stay, but has a lot of room for improvement.
