SHIN TAUNT PON IMAGE The Shin Taunt Pon Image is in residence close to the middle of the town in Thayet Chaung Township, Dawei District in Tanintharyi Region. There is Pakaryi Village about ten miles east of Dawel. Long ago, there was Hmaing Karyi Town in that place near Bumi Deva Nagara Town where King Yandabo alias Raza Dabo set up his palace. His queen had seen a peacock with golden feathers in the forest and requested the king to get it for her to keep as a pet. The king ordered famous hunter Maung Nwar, son of elephant-herd Maung Meh of Hsin Kyu Gon village to capture the peacock. Hunter Maung Nwar used various methods and kept following the peacock in order to catch it. One day, he arrived at the creek near Shin Taunt Pon Hill in Thayet Chaung where he met hermit Giri Pyitsaya to whom he told what he was after The hermit preached sermons as a result of which hunter Maung Nwar saw the light and chose to become a hermit with the name Gaw Weinda. He put together the bow and arrow and all that was used by him as a hunter and burned them and in the place where these were burned he built a pagoda and called it Shin Taunt Pon Pagoda Shin meams pagoda, Taunt in broken Pali means the quiver and so it also means the pagoda of articles for hunting put together The hill where the Shin Taunt Pon Pagoda is in residence is over 2,000 feet above sea level and is famous as one of the nine pagodas.

Nice location and can see beautiful panorama view of mountains, paddy fields and the river. The pagoda is famous about 9 historical pagodas in near Dawei Area.
