★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are reading this, you have probably taken a 10 day Vipassana course taught by SN Goenka and followed the chain of previous teachers to this location. Webu Sayadaw was first ordained as a novice monk at the age of nine, then fully ordained at the age of twenty, and after studying at Masoyein Monastery for seven years, spent a few years in solitude focused on anapanasati meditation. You can walk up the hill to the cave where he meditated in solitude and see the living quarters where Sayagyi U Ba Khin first met Webu Sayadaw. If you are on a day trip from Mandalay and looking for a good meal, stop by Kaung San on the main road, a family run restaurant where the father learned to meditate in the tradition of Webu Sayadaw while the daughter learned from SN Goenka. Also, make sure to visit the Tamote Shinpin Shwe Gugyi Pagoda which left me thoroughly amazed even though I was experiencing Pagoda burnout after spending a few days in Bagan before coming to Mandalay/Kyauske.
