Beautiful Buddha and monk statues in attractive scenery. There's a reclining Buddha, a sitting on a and a landscape full of monk statues. The new ones look like Mr Bean but the older ones have a lot of character. Refreshments available at the main site.

You come here for the sheer size of the Buddha from the outside, but you explore more on the inside - walking through the various levels and seeing all sorts of strange depictions of "hell" and tales from Buddha's life. Interesting to see even if you don't really know what you're looking at.

I didn't think Evan's description of half horror show museum and half construction site would be so accurate. From the outside it's quite impressive and in some places rather strange. I'm not sure if the outside is worth the visit alone. Once you get inside the giant buddha it's a strange array of almost life size dioramas of Buddha's life at varying degrees of completion lit by bare bulbs with a mostly unfinished floor. Overall I'd say it's well worth going to, it's by far the most interesting and entertaining temple I've been to and it's a refreshing departure from the golden stupors that become monotonous during travels through Myanmar.

Inclining Buddha is not just one image. It has got a treasure of images within the body structure with more than 4 tiers of idols of historical events of Buddha right from his Birth as Siddhartha, as a King, Enlightenment, precepts, developments of disciples and several anecdotes all depicted in colour statues

The Monastery remains under construction. Inside the laying buddha (stupa) there is a huge space/building with 3 three floors and each have many bloocks telling stories about the early stages of life of the Buddha and also telling about Buddhism belief as well as Mon cultures with human-like carving or images. To get to the Buddha stupa up on the hill there are motorcycle-taxi which will charge you only MMK 1000 for a return trip which only take about 2 to 3mn one way. I used the motorcycle taxi as to save time as well as to share the income with hem. I regretted that I did not have sufficient time to go around and review all necessary structures. If you go to Mowlamyine and you also want to know about Buddhism you should spent time to go there. I rented a tuk tuk going to two places including this one it cost only MMK 13000 but I gavevthem MMK 15000 as he had to wait for me for some time longer than expected.

Worth a visit, but do not expect the statue to blow you away. It is under construction and wondering around the floors inside can sometimes be uncomfortable (there’s dust and rubble everywhere, so be careful!). Probably worth heading to a nearby viewpoint to see the Buddha from afar instead- we didn’t as we reached the site at midday and it was simply too hot!

Win Sein Tawya Monastery. Sayardaw (The abbot) of Win Sein Tawya Monastery tried to build the largest reclining Buddha statue in the world. The followers of Sayardaw and the people around there helped Sayardaw with money and voluntary working. It is about 600 feet long and nearly 100 feet high. Inside the Buddha statue there are some layers and forming many rooms. In those rooms the life events of Buddha are described by sculptures and paintings. In some rooms the descriptions are about the people being in Hell according to their behaving in their former lives. But all of those rooms are not completely finished yet. In front of the statue next 900 feet long reclining Buddha statue is under construction. Although Sayardaw passed away in 2015, the construction are being continued by the followers and the people all around the country. Sayardaw founded over 600 pagodas, temples and big statues. Sayardaw is famous for his moral precepts. There you can see the dead body of Win Sein Tawya Sayardaw in a glass box in the building near the Buddha statue.
