The Mahazedi means the Great Stupa. It is one of the revered pagodas in Bago. The Pagoda was built by King Bayinnaung in 1560 A.D. It is known that the pagoda enshrines a tooth-relic brought from Sri Lanka.
By the side of Mahazedi, there is a small temple similar to the "Ananda" temple in Bagan. Interior are decorated with golden pillars, walls and ceilings.
There is also a victory ground of King Bayinnaung in the pagoda compound.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Huge pagoda. If you were a man, you must visit because you can walk to the middle of the pagoda to pay respect and also see the scenary overthere which surrounding with forest and pagoda.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Attractive pagoda that’s best known as the place to photograph the reclining Buddha. You’ll need a long lens (at least 200mm). Unfortunately there was a lot of smoke around when we were there.
Only men are allowed to climb the pagoda.
