★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not one of the temples you typically hear referred to as a must see, but in my opinion, this temple is a top-10 temple in Bagan. It is massive, nearly as big as the nearby Sulamuni Temple, and architecturally it is absolutely beautiful. Absolutely worth a visit in its own right, but when you factor in how close it is to Sulamuni, Than Pyin Swar Pagoda, and Dhammayangyi Temple, visiting this temple is a no-brainer

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The location of the abandoned Tha Beik Hmauk, a short walk from the vastly more popular Sulamani Temple, ensures that it will be ignored by the crowds, be they Burmese or tourists. I discovered Tha Beik by mistake while walking around the outer walls of Sulamani. The architecture of the two temples is similar. I happened to be there at dusk with a full moon rising behind the temple. The reddish hues of the dusty countryside, their reflections on the walls of the temple and the fact that the place was totally deserted added to the magic of the moment.
