★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cute, little bed and breakfast with no-frills services in a quiet neighborhood. Clean linen and rooms. 3 mins walk to a popular cafe called Kalaw Cafeyard . Enjoyed listening to stories of Grandma Olive, who used to work as a medical doctor and had lived in China, the UK and Hong Kong. Don’t forget to have their shan noodle for breakfast.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I really enjoyed my two nights at The Nest guesthouse. Here’s a photo of me with the owner, grandma Olive. She is a real character and has a lot of stories from an amazing life. She has lived in London, Hong Kong, China and Myanmar and she comes from Yangon originally. The price was 25,000 kyat in February 2020 for a nice clean but basic room with wonderful views over Kalaw. It is some distance from the town, and it’s a bit hard to find at present using Google Maps which brings you in a rather awkward way. There is a much easier way to get there but Google doesn’t show this. The breakfast is wonderful, eggs and toast followed by Shan noodles, lots of fruit, juice, tea and coffee. Highly recommended.
